So, it’s that time of year again, that time when you look around the house and realize that you have received more presents than you have space. One of the New Year resolutions that many people have, after losing weight and quitting smoking, is to clean out the house. There are good reasons for that. Dust, mildew, and even mold collect on old furnishings and getting rid of these items makes for a cleaner house. But beyond the health reasons there are psychological reasons to clear are the rubbish and junk. A clean house does produce a clean mind. It’s the fresh snow effect. There is nothing more pleasurable than playing in fresh snow. Old snow not so much. A clean house refocuses the energies and creates more harmony. When your house is clean, you feel more alert, more excited to be in the home, and it’s easier to focus and concentrate.

There is another plus side to clearing out the post-holiday junk: recycling. There will be things that you remove from your house that can be recycled and repurposed by others. Goodwill always can use support. They will take the items you don’t need and make good use of them. One man’s trash can certainly be another man’s treasure.
